FDA Proprietary Blend Rules (21 CFR 101.36)
The blend must declare the total weight of all constituents combined. Per 21 CFR 101.36(b)(3)(i), the total amount of the proprietary blend must be declared.
Constituents must be listed in descending order by weight — heaviest first, lightest last. Per 21 CFR 101.36(b)(3)(ii).
Individual constituent weights must not be shown — only the total blend weight is displayed. This protects proprietary formula composition.
Mandatory dietary nutrients (vitamins, minerals, macronutrients per 21 CFR 101.36(b)(2)) must not be hidden inside a blend — they need their own declared amount and %DV.
